We are looking for a software developer with a degree-level qualification (who may also possibly be a PhD student) with a major in finance/investments who is able to undertake software programming in Access, advanced Excel, VBA and, potentially, SQL.
The successful candidate will be working closely with members of the Investment Team and the Data Analyst on a daily basis, and will focus on the specification/design and development of reports which use commonly used financial/investment formulae to interpret huge volumes of securities data from a variety of sources, such as investment managers who may be providing portfolio information for evaluation, custodians who manage the records of clients, or market data licensors such as Bloomberg. The role will enable the successful applicant to leverage off their technical background, quantitative ability and interest in financial products and concepts.
Specific requirements of the role
- The primary objective is to work with the Investment Team, to understand processes, analyse users’ requirements and translate them into a technology solution.
- Technically the role will require development capabilities in the Microsoft Office suite of products such as Outlook, Excel and Access; Visual Basic for Applications is also required and SQL (although this is not essential)
- Good experience of application design and development methodologies and working with mathematical models and large data sets is essential.
- The successful candidate will be highly numerate with a quantitative/mathematical background and a knowledge of finance/investment/analytical concepts. They will be familiar with fundamental portfolio analysis.
- The ability to think independently is important; together with being open to taking guidance from others.
- The ability to share specialist knowledge, as well as documenting output for training purposes.
- The ability to consider the broader picture.
- An understanding of IT security.
